Southern Michigan Pain Consultants’ practice focus is specific to Pain Management; Southern Michigan Pain Consultants (SMPC) treats chronic pain such as spine related back pain and neck pain, shingles, headaches, nerve pain and others. While we treat any type of chronic pain, we find that the number one issue our patients need treatment for is pain related to to the spine.

Our physicians and pain management specialists have had advanced training and education in the specialty of pain. They understand the complex nature of chronic pain and how it can take a toll on a person’s entire life, both physically and emotionally. Our goal at SMPC is to provide the treatments that allow our patients to gain lifestyle and functional improvements and to give them a chance to get back some of life’s simple pleasures; taking a walk, enjoying an evening out, lunch with friends, playing a round of golf, grocery shopping or just getting out of bed!

SMPC is prepared to approach these patients in a variety of ways. Treatment with our practice may involve injections, medications, behavioral medicine, physical therapy and/or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Often it is a combination of these techniques that brings the best results. Since opening our first pain clinic in 2000, SMPC has used a multidisciplinary approach to pain problems, and our recommendations are always based on a thorough assessment of the patient’s current health and goals for improvement.

SMPC has three pain management centers in Southwest Michigan, Portage, Marshall & St. Joseph. Physicians with the practice include Medical Director Matthew Kuiper, DO, Barton Wild, MD, Michael Kolinski, DO, and Joel Bez DO FAOCA.
